Before You Lock It In

Squad is healthy, fixtures are clear, and projections are available with real signal behind them.
Key RiskThomas at 75% chance of playing; Van Hecke covers if he fails to make the team sheet.

Still Live

  • • João Pedro flagged at 75% doubtful; bench order absorbs the risk but check before deadline.
  • • De Cuyper and Groß face Brighton's toughest fixture of the run, away at Man City.
  • • Mbeumo travels to Chelsea as an underdog; ceiling is real but floor is limited.

Check Before Deadline

  • Thomas fitness update before deadline; Van Hecke starts if Thomas is ruled out.
  • João Pedro's fitness status; at 42 expected minutes he is a bench asset, not a starter.

The horizon model is pointing with both hands. You do not ignore the compass when it is spinning this hard toward Bournemouth.

Luca Ferretti

Luca Ferretti

The three-at-the-back gives us width and the platform for Haaland. This is architecture. You build the house before you paint the ceiling.

Jimmy MacLeod

Jimmy MacLeod

Silva at 0.8% ownership for a reason. I want to see more than one good defensive display before I call him a fixture.

Dr. Rachel Okafor

Dr. Rachel Okafor

Thomas is at 75% chance of playing. The file says 65 expected minutes. That is not a nailed starter and the bench order should reflect it.

Room backed the Silva move and Haaland armband; MacLeod questioned the differential punt and Okafor flagged Thomas and João Pedro's fitness status.

Worth Watching

Jimmy MacLeod

Jimmy MacLeod

Three positions tracked this week; I have had the Bournemouth defenders and the Brentford forward on the list since the fixtures fell.

DEFHillpremium

£5.5m · 1.2% owned

Hill has form of 6.7 and the same home fixture against Leeds that makes Silva worth moving on. At 5.5m and 1.2% ownership, the differential upside in a Bournemouth side at home to an FDR 3 opponent is genuine. Worth watching how Silva beds in before doubling up, but Hill is the one I would look at next if the spot needs filling.

MIDTonalibudget

£5.3m · 1.8% owned

Spurs at home to Crystal Palace, Tottenham strong favourites at 8/15. At 5.3m and under 2% owned, Tonali offers genuine differential upside in a fixture the market rates as close to a formality. The budget slot at this price point does not often come with an FDR 2 home game attached.

FWDThiagopremium

£7.8m · 8.8% owned

Brentford at home to Nott'm Forest, market has Brentford favourites at evens. Thiago leads the forward watchlist on projected points and has the platform of a genuinely attacking home side in a favourable fixture. If the forward slot needs attention in coming weeks, this is the name to have ready.

Behind the decision

CONFIDENCE: HIGH

Three transfers, two still to spend. The room had views. It usually does.

THE CALL

Silva in for Konsa, formation shifts to 3-5-2, Van Hecke into the XI. The numbers have been pointing at this for a while.

Triple Captain: play it this week, 6.5 projected points this week (Haaland). The biggest number before expiry is GW16 at 7.9, too far out to bank on. It expires after GW19.

FORMATION

3-5-2, following the shape the data prescribes. Van Hecke comes in for Thomas, which brings the back three to full strength and puts a nailed starter into a kind home fixture at FDR 2.

STARTING XI

GK: Raya, away at Liverpool, tough trip, but he is the starter and holds his place.

DEF: Van Hecke (at home to Crystal Palace, FDR 2), the lineup change that costs nothing. Thomas sits at 75% fit with 65 projected minutes; Van Hecke starts in a fixture where Spurs are strong favourites. Rachel flagged it. Applied.

DEF: Muharemović (away at Bournemouth, FDR 3), accumulating defensive actions in the range that earns the bonus; solid hold.

DEF: Silva (at home to Leeds, FDR 3), this week's transfer in. Bournemouth favourites at 6/5 to win, home fixture, 89 projected minutes. The xG is there even without the goals yet. MacLeod had his doubts about a 0.8% differential punt. I hear him. The five-gameweek projection outweighs the scepticism.

MID: Mbeumo (away at Chelsea, FDR 4), Man Utd are underdogs at Chelsea, 11/4 to win. The ceiling is real; so is the floor. He starts.

MID: Tavernier (at home to Leeds, FDR 3), five goals this season against an xG of 3.6. Could be due a quiet one. He starts regardless; home fixture, Bournemouth favourites.

MID: Groß (away at Man City, FDR 5), Man City are strong favourites at 4/6. Luca noted the architecture of the three-at-the-back; Groß is part of it. Tough ask, but he holds his place.

MID: Palmer (at home to Man Utd, FDR 4), vice-captain. Chelsea favourites at 5/6. The xG and assist output are steady even in quieter stretches.

MID: Rogers (at home to Man Utd, FDR 4), four goals on 2.1 xG this season; running warm. Same caveat as Palmer on the fixture difficulty, same rationale to hold him.

FWD: Haaland (at home to Brighton, FDR 3), captained, Man City strong favourites. Covered below.

FWD: Barry (away at Newcastle, FDR 3), xG of 5.1 this season against 3 goals; the shot volume is there even if the conversion has lagged. Newcastle favourites at 6/5, but Barry holds his place.

BENCH ORDER

1. De Cuyper, carries the highest projection among the benched outfield players but faces Man City away. First cover for any defensive reshuffle.

2. Thomas, 75% fit, 65 projected minutes. Second sub cover. Rachel's note stands: this is not a nailed starter. Do not expect him.

3. João Pedro, doubtful at 75%, 42 projected minutes. Bench asset only.

GK: Davies.

CAPTAIN

Haaland (C), projects 6.5 points this week. Man City at home to Brighton, strong favourites. The armband returns to him, and the case is straightforward: the projection leads the squad by 0.7 points over the next strongest option. The nine goals this season run ahead of his xG of 6.1, so a quieter week is always possible, but the platform is the right one.

Palmer (VC), projects 5.76 points. Chelsea at home to Man Utd, favourites. Steady fallback if Haaland blanks.

ARBITRATION

MacLeod wanted to hold both transfers and bank. "Silva at under 1% owned is a punt. I need to see the whites of his eyes before I file the paperwork." Arjun's five-gameweek projection came back with 20.6 points for Silva against 12.9 for Konsa. That is a gap that requires an answer, not a deferral. I backed Arjun. MacLeod can note his objection in the book.

Rachel flagged Thomas separately. "The file says 75%. The file does not say he starts." Van Hecke covers exactly that risk and projects better in a genuinely kinder fixture. Applied without drama.

WHY NOT THE OTHER MOVE?

The case for rolling the second transfer is legitimate. Bank the flexibility, keep the options open for GW10. The reason we move anyway: Silva out-projects Konsa over the next five gameweeks by 7.76 points, and this week alone the gap is 1.1 points. A free transfer that generates nearly eight projected points over five weeks is not one you leave on the shelf because the name is unfamiliar.

These land every week.
